SUBSTRAT IS A BERLIN-BASED ARTIST MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS AGENCY SUPPORTING ARTISTS IN THE DAILY LOGISTICS OF THEIR PRACTICE.
ITS AIM IS TO CREATE SPACE FOR ARTISTS TO FULLY FOCUS ON THEIR WORK BY TAKING ON TASKS SUCH AS EXHIBITION PROPOSALS, GRANT APPLICATIONS, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, PR, PRODUCTION, AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT.
SUBSTRAT OFFERS PROJECT-BASED OR LONG-TERM SUPPORT. THROUGH TAILORED STRATEGIES AND CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH GALLERIES, INSTITUIONS, AND INDEPENDENT TEAMS, SUBSTRAT HELPS ARTISTS BUILD PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS AND EXPAND THEIR VISIBILITY.
SUBSTRAT was founded in 2022 by Alexia Timmermans.
Alexia Timmermans (b. 1990, Antwerp) is a curator, artist manager and communications manager. She has held several positions in Berlin, including at Berlin Art Week (Communication Management), Studio Julius von Bismarck (Text and Communication), neugerriemschneider (Head of Content and Communications), KEWENIG (Gallery Assistance and Press), and the BOROS Collection (Assistant to the Director). She holds Master’s degrees in Art Business (Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London), European Studies (Humboldt University and Freie Universität Berlin), and Spanish Literature (University of Antwerp / Complutense University of Madrid), as well as a Bachelor’s degree in German and Spanish Literature and Linguistics (University of Antwerp / Freie Universität Berlin).
